The Wisdom of Simplicity, “I would not give a fig for simplicity this side of complexity, but would give my life for the simplicity on the other side of complexity” Oliver Wendell Holmes. Leaders are nearly always confronted with complex challenges which can cause sleepless nights and anxious hours. The human dilemmas of real people and real-life challenges personally and professionally don’t provide neat categories for resolution. One of the fundamental gifts of leaders is to ferret out those truly simple solutions which emerge in the grind and sausage making of life’s dilemmas. Our sound bite, media savvy, politically charged culture is rich in simplistic slogans and solutions, which offer little real help. The art is in meticulously working through all elements and sides of our challenges until we find the next best approach which is usually clear, communicable, specific, and meaningful. True wisdom is a companion to this thought journey, sometimes painful, toward a truly better place. The effort is worth the cost, in preserving integrity and the higher good. Each human action however small towards wisdom and simplicity is a building block for humanity which others stand upon to see the future. #Simplicity #wisdom –Dave Ramey
